Meta Says Personal Superintelligence Should Belong to Everyone—not a Powerful Few

Black female AI strategist presenting widely accessible personal superintelligence

Meta has published an ambitious vision for personal superintelligence: exceptionally capable AI that understands an individual’s goals, works continuously on their behalf and is available to billions rather than controlled by a narrow elite.

The company frames invention—not simple automation—as the greatest contribution of superintelligence. Its examples range from scientific discovery and personalised health support to business creation, relationships and everyday household management.

The strongest part of Meta’s argument

Intelligence creates power. If only a small number of companies, governments or wealthy individuals possess the strongest systems, existing inequalities could become computationally amplified. Meta argues that widespread access creates counterweights: more people can defend themselves, build businesses, learn and contribute ideas.

This aligns with a social-inclusion principle: a powerful paid layer may fund development, but a useful free or affordable layer ensures that the future is not reserved for those already wealthy.

Distribution is not the same as safety

  • People need control over what a personal agent can see and do.
  • Sensitive health, financial and family information requires strong privacy boundaries.
  • Users must be able to inspect, correct and revoke an agent’s actions.
  • Free access should not quietly become payment through excessive surveillance.

Meta proposes free versions for billions and a dynamic auction for additional compute. That model could widen access, but its fairness will depend on transparent pricing and whether basic users receive genuinely capable tools rather than a symbolic tier.

The deeper question is who directs abundant intelligence. Meta’s answer is the individual. The responsible next step is ensuring individuals also receive understandable controls, meaningful consent and protection when automated decisions go wrong.
