The US Open Is Getting New AI Features—Here’s How IBM Wants to Reinvent Sports Fans’ Experience

Tennis fans using AI features during a night match

IBM and the United States Tennis Association have announced new and enhanced AI features for the 2026 US Open website and app, focusing on personalisation and clearer match insight.

Turning data into understanding

Modern tennis produces enormous streams of tracking and scoring data. Fans do not need more numbers; they need useful explanations at the right moment.

Serve Quality

IBM’s Serve Quality metric analyses body, racquet and ball positions across serves. The system processes about 1.2 billion data points during the singles tournament to produce near-real-time scores.

A personalised experience

AI can help fans follow preferred players, identify important moments and navigate a crowded tournament schedule. The best features should support the match rather than distract from it.

Accuracy and transparency

Generated commentary must distinguish measured facts from interpretation. Sports fans notice errors quickly, and athletes deserve responsible treatment of performance data.

MaryChuks perspective

Sports may become one of AI’s most visible classrooms. Fans can immediately judge whether a feature deepens understanding or simply adds noise.
