Many homes contain things that are apparently too good to use.
The expensive perfume.
The beautiful plates.
The special dress.
The luxury candle.
The notebook with pages considered too perfect to write on.
We save them for an undefined future occasion.
Sometimes that occasion never comes.
Objects are meant to participate in life.
Wear the outfit to dinner.
Use the nice glass.
Light the candle on an ordinary Wednesday.
Write badly on the first page of the beautiful notebook.
This does not mean treating valuable possessions carelessly.
It means recognising that enjoyment is one of the reasons we own them.
A special occasion does not always arrive with invitations and decorations.
Sometimes being alive, healthy enough to sit at the table and surrounded by people you care about is already an occasion worth celebrating.
Use your things.
Create memories with them.
Let ordinary life benefit from some of the beauty you have been saving.
