LG says it is developing a next-generation bipedal humanoid robot using NVIDIA Isaac GR00T, with a public unveiling planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The announcement follows an agreement between LG and NVIDIA covering robotics, AI factories and mobility. It signals that physical AI is moving from impressive laboratory demonstrations toward systems designed for practical environments.
Why the foundation model matters
A humanoid needs more than mechanical balance. It must interpret vision, language and spatial context, then translate those signals into safe movement. A robotics foundation model can provide general reasoning that is adapted to particular bodies and tasks.
LG brings experience in appliances, manufacturing and connected homes; NVIDIA provides simulation, computing and robotics software. The strategic advantage is the ability to train in virtual environments before exposing a machine to people and expensive equipment.
A demonstration is not deployment
- A public unveiling does not mean mass production is ready.
- Battery life, reliability and safe manipulation remain difficult.
- Useful robots must justify their cost against simpler specialised machines.

Humanoid form is attractive because homes and factories were designed around human bodies. Doors, stairs, shelves and tools already assume our reach and movement. Yet the same flexibility creates safety complexity: a general-purpose robot has more possible actions and therefore more ways to fail.
The real milestone will not be whether the robot walks elegantly on stage. It will be whether it can perform boring, repetitive tasks for months without harming people, damaging objects or requiring constant intervention.
