A notification is a tiny request: stop what you are doing and look here.
Start with the lock screen
List the apps that have interrupted you today. Mark each alert as urgent, useful but non-urgent, or unnecessary.
Calls from family may deserve immediate access. A shopping promotion probably does not.
Change permissions by purpose
Turn off promotional alerts, social reactions and routine updates you can check when you choose. Keep security warnings, travel changes and genuinely time-sensitive communication.
For useful but non-urgent apps, remove sounds and lock-screen banners while leaving badges available.
Create delivery windows
Use scheduled summaries or focus modes for news, social media and newsletters. Grouping alerts prevents your attention from being repeatedly broken throughout the day.
Decide which people can bypass these limits in an emergency.
Review after one week
If you never missed an alert, the restriction probably worked. If a disabled notification caused a real problem, restore only that category.
A quieter phone is not an antisocial phone. It is a device that waits until you decide to use it.
