The AI boom is often described through models and software jobs, but the physical infrastructure behind intelligence requires electricians, builders, welders, cooling specialists and many other skilled workers.
Meta’s America’s Workforce Academy offers free training, an industry-recognised credential and, according to the company, guaranteed jobs for graduates.
The programme connects investment in data centres with a practical route into employment for people who may not have prior experience or a university degree.
This matters because infrastructure spending creates opportunity only when local people can access the skills required. Otherwise, communities may see large facilities built around them without receiving a fair share of the economic benefit.
Training should also prepare workers for careers beyond one project. Recognised credentials and transferable skills give graduates more bargaining power than narrow instruction tied to a single employer.
The wider lesson is that AI workforce policy must include the entire stack. Software development is important, but so are construction, energy, maintenance and operational safety.
The intelligence economy will be built by hands as well as algorithms. Programmes that connect training directly to real jobs make that fact visible.
