Your alarm rings.
You stop it.
Then, almost automatically, your thumb begins moving.
Messages.
Email.
News.
Social media.
Before your feet have touched the floor, dozens of people and organisations have already entered your mind.
There is nothing inherently wrong with checking a phone.
The question is whether everyone else’s priorities should arrive before your own.
Try creating a short buffer.
Even ten or fifteen minutes can help.
Get up.
Drink water.
Open the curtains.
Wash.
Think about what matters most that day.
Then check your phone.
You may also reconsider which notifications deserve permission to appear on your lock screen.
Many do not.
Technology should help organise your life.
It should not automatically receive the first minutes of every day simply because it happens to be beside your bed.
