In-app advertisements and Uber’s new advertising division were just introduced. These advertisements, it seems, aren’t staying inside the app.

To the dismay of some Uber users, push notifications are now being sent out that contain advertisements from other businesses.

People took to Twitter over the weekend to voice their complaints about the notifications and shared screenshots of ads, including one in particular that was very well-liked from Peloton that Uber had distributed.

One of the main issues is that notifications are sent out even when users aren’t using the app.

Uber failed to mention the potentially intrusive implications when it first announced its in-app ad “experience.”
