Armed robbers attacked have attacked a bullion vain in Ondo state, shooting the police escorts in the process – While a media report says two people may have been killed, the police says there are no casualties during the incident – The Ondo state police command, however, assured members of the public that the criminals will be apprehended

A report by Daily Trust indicates that two people have been feared killed after armed robbers attacked a bank bullion van at Elemosho village along Akure-Ondo expressway in Ondo East local government area of Ondo state on Thursday evening, May 6.

Eye-witnesses quoted in the report said the robbers attacked the bullion van headed toward Akure, the state capital around 5 pm and made away with an undisclosed amount of money. The witnesses added that three people were reportedly shot in the operation, which last minutes before the gunmen ran into the bush

Confirming the incident to African Independent Television via telephone, spokesman of the Ondo state police command, Tee-Leo Ikoro said the bullion van was conveying money to Akure. He, however, said no life was lost in the incident while some of the police escorts escaped with bullet wounds, assuring that operatives of the command are already on the trail of the robbers. Some Nigerians have been reacting to the incident via social media.

Adeyeye Gbenga Olabode wrote on Facebook: “In a country that is not good, robbery of this magnitude is bound to happen. Imagine how bullion vans are always guided by several policemen and yet these daredevils will face them and successfully rob them.” Sanya Daniel wrote: “It’s not a surprise. Everyone working in Nigeria is working because they wanna feed and survive not for loyalty, patriotism, and passion.”

Onwuka Chiedu Chris wrote: “We are getting to that point. It seems like we are already at that spot. The kegs of gun powder that we have been sitting on so long have started to explode.” Benjamin Akuruo-ulor Hardwood wrote: “Sadly the situation in Nigeria wouldn’t have gotten this bad if only this government was an inclusive one that made every region feel well represented and rightfully treated! Too bad things have fallen apart right before our eyes!” Recall that on Tuesday, March 30, a police inspector and two others were shot dead when dare-devil armed robbers raided the Issele-Uku branch of a new generation bank in Delta state. The robbers attacked the bank with bullets and dynamites before launching another assault on a police station in the community.
