Netflix Movie Review: Diamonds In The Sky will leave you with mixed feelings about Cancer

Hmmmm! Here we are again? Not seen the movie Diamonds in the Sky, produced by Femi Adebayo and directed by Kunle Afolayan?

The movie is centered around three women and how how they dealt with uncertainty and struggles when cancer affects their lives and presents emotional challenges.

The star studded movie boosts of the likes Joke Silva, Omowunmi Dada, Bimbo Akintola, Yvonne Jegede, Binta Mogaji, Femi Adebayo, Toyin Abraham, Ali Nuhu, Oga Bello.

Joke Silva, is an MD in a multi million naira company.

She already went through menopause but began bleeding profusely as if her menstruation had miraculously reappeared.

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer and advised to get a hysterectomy in order to save her life. What would happen to her company?

Omowumi Dada, is a student deeply in love with her fiancé, Femi Adebayo. She had been taking birth control pills. Few months on, she had really bad menstrual cramps. One day, she collapsed and was rushed to the clinic.

She was later referred to LEAH center where she was told she had Cervical cancer? Did their love survive this huge blow?

Bimbo Akintola is a trader. She had a painful lump in her breast which she thought would eventually disappear.

She even went to see a fake prophet to get her healing after trying all other means to remove the lump she thought was a boil.


The mother of two was later diagnosed with breast cancer and advised to go through chemotherapy to kill the cancer cells and remove her breasts to avoid the spread.

Will her husband let her remove his most cherished part of her body?

Toyin Abraham had a very small role in this but she added the necessary sauce; she’s a brilliant actress. She added the comic relief needed to calm the tension in the movie.

Diamonds in the Sky shot in Ilorin, Kwara State, is also another avenue for the creation of awareness for facilities like the LEAH centre who charge next to nothing for a test.


Although it is 50% a Yoruba language movie, Diamonds in the Sky movie passed a very delicate message in beautiful way and available to watch on Netflix.
