Using her skill in paper craft and her love of insects, Oregon-based artist Kerilynn Wilson creates intricately realistic sculptures of butterflies and beetles by combining papercut and drawings.
I love to paint and draw all day long, but it can be exhausting to draw just for fun in the evenings. I was trying to figure out how I could be creatively satisfied and still give my brain a break. Additionally, I keep all the scraps of paper from previous jobs, which I use to create my realistic insect sculptures. And that was how it started! My insect sculptures were inspired by a variety of factors. The main one is that I adore actual insects. I’ve always been fascinated by them and have collected dead ones that I’ve discovered, but I was looking for a way to gather incredible insects without endangering them.
