Maldha Mohamed is a self-taught Maldivian visual artist who specializes in oil paintings of eyes full of expressions and emotions.
Painting the eyes motivated me because I believe that the eyes are the only aspect of one’s existence that can genuinely express a person’s vulnerability.
I felt inspired to paint simply the eye because an expression can be perceived [in] a thousand different ways. While I give them titles like want and desire, some people see it as something more, an entirely distinct sensation. It fascinates me to paint them because I aim to make them as raw as possible in order to give them depth and vitality, as I will never create the same eye twice.
