Diana Beltran Herrera, a Colombian artist, has been steadily adding to her collection of paper bird sculptures, which now numbers over 100 different species. She has also added a few lovely butterflies to her paper zoo. Herrera does employ a variety of production techniques, but she consistently strives to use inexpensive materials like cardboard, paper, and wood. In order to maximize the potential of these materials in her gorgeous creations, she seeks to understand more about them along the way. Herrera stated, “I am extremely interested in the simple processes of transformation that don’t need expensive instruments or industrial processes,” in an interview with Frankie Magazine.
