An artist puts a creative spin on the Met Gala cockroach by envisioning it as a glamorous attendee of the event.

There was one notorious party crasher among all the invited guests to the 2023 Met Gala. It wasn’t an A-lister, either; no. It was a bewildered cockroach trying to flee the crowds, but it wound up at one of the greatest events in New York City.

The beetle did its hardest to avoid onlookers and the camera, but both amateur and professional photographers managed to catch its fleeting moment of fame. The cockroach became a genuine star by the end of the night.

The natural inquiry was, “Who was it wearing?” at a gathering where the outfits were the star. Travis Chapman, a visual artist, has the solution. He depicted a cockroach in a stylish—if disgusting—dress posing on the “Colgate carpet” in his painting.
