Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has raised concerns over the deliberate destruction of their operations by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). The airline alleges that NLC and TUC officials disrupted their operations at the Lagos Airport, taking over their check-in counters. This disruption was due to a misunderstanding they had with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.Air Peace has no affiliation with the Imo State Government, but the disruption caused by NLC and TUC will lead to a significant loss to the business, as over 110 flights will be disrupted, leading to over N700m loss to the airline. The airline is calling on Nigerians to be aware that most of the flights will be canceled “today and in the coming days”.The airline’s management is also concerned that security agencies did nothing while the airline was being “harassed and hounded” by the unions at these airports. This attack is not the first time the airline has been targeted by NLC or unions for issues that have no bearing with the airline. The airline was previously attacked because they were protesting minimum wage with the Federal Government.Air Peace’s management expressed worry about why aviation and the airline should be selected for this kind of treatment. They question why NLC and TUC are not stopping road transport workers who are going to Imo State instead. Aviation is vital for national security, and Nigeria has been made a laughing stock in the world due to this incident. In conclusion, Air Peace is calling for understanding and for authorities to intervene to ensure that their operations can continue smoothly. The disruption by NLC and TUC officials should be taken up with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and not the airline. Chioma Kalu
